Lord Stafford Award '05

Both Keele and Staffordshire Universities celebrate as winners of the West Midlands leading Innovation Awards, the Lord Stafford Awards. Clinching both the Development and Achievement categories, the Universities from Staffordshire were joined by The University of Warwick for the best "Spin out" company.

Sirane

Nominee for the Lord Stafford 05 Award for Development in Innovation. The company developed a novel knot-tying machine to be sold to packers who will use it in conjunction with a new chicken-roasting bag, which the company has also developed.

Patrick Eggle Guitars

Nominee for the Lord Stafford 05, award for Achievement in Innovation. The company has developed a low cost, volume-produced guitar for the American market. The guitar has been developed using a moulded plastic material, reducing costs, but still giving high quality performance and appearance.

Gekko

Nominee for the Lord Stafford 05 Award for Development in Innovation. This project involved the development of a new controller for a novel lighting system for moving image cameras.

Cobra

Nominee for the Lord Stafford 05, award for Achievement in Innovation. Plasmid DNA offers a completely new approach to vaccines and medicines. Cobra produces a number of plasmids for a range of therapeutic purposes such as the treatment of cancer and gene therapy. Cobra have developed a suitable process to allow the required solutions to be separated less violently than before.
